About oral hygiene

When is professional oral hygiene necessary?

Even if you brush your teeth responsibly and thoroughly, it is only possible to remove some plaque on your own. Over time, plaque that accumulates on the surface of the teeth can lead to inflammatory processes. To prevent dangerous oral diseases, professional oral hygiene (POH) is recommended about twice a year to remove plaque and tartar. It is recommended that this procedure is carried out approximately every six months.

How is professional oral hygiene performed?

For professional oral hygiene, OksDenta uses special equipment to remove plaque even in hard-to-reach areas. During the procedure, hard and soft plaque is removed, the necessary applications of therapeutic agents are used, and the surface of the teeth is polished with the Air-flow system. Air-flow is a strong jet of air, water and soda that helps to easily and effectively remove pigmented plaque that forms on the surface of the teeth from coffee, tea or other substances. In addition to removing plaque, the system also helps to get rid of bad breath, reduces gum sensitivity and bleeding, and stops gingivitis.

POH lasts 30-60 minutes and does not cause any unpleasant sensations. It leaves your mouth feeling fresh, your teeth looking whiter and, most importantly, prevents periodontal disease. For periodontal disease, regular professional oral hygiene is one of the treatments.

What are the risks of not having POH?

Unpleasant halitosis and discolouration of the teeth occur without professional oral hygiene. In addition, plaque on the surface of the teeth turns into tartar, which accumulates under the gums and can provoke periodontal disease. Delaying professional oral hygiene eventually leads to deeper gum pockets, misaligned teeth and even the risk of tooth loss.
